There is certainly something special about receiving a long awaited arrival of a Steiff limited-edition collectable from Germany, even more so when it is Dougal the Demiguise from Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The box was one of the largest we’ve had in the limited-edition range so we were eager to see what he looked like.

The giftbox itself has all the hallmarks of Steiff’s well known attention to detail, beautifully patterned with the prominent ‘Button in Ear’ and logo. The boxes may be there to protect the collectable but they certainly add a specialness to the experience of owning a limited-edition piece.

Dougal is well wrapped and hidden amongst the tissue paper used to protect his soft fur, now its time for the big reveal! It’s always exciting to see favourite characters realised in such an art form and to see how well Steiff has captured their likeness and special features.

Here he is, what a sight! At first you can only see fur as his arms are up over his face, almost like he’s playing hide-and-seek. However, you can see his face peeking out and you can tell that this is a plush that has been extremely well made with loving detail and expert workmanship. The fur feels as soft as it looks and his arms can be moved and formed in any pose you’d like.

As with the character in the film, it’s certainly the eyes that you are drawn to first. The safety eyes have a soulfulness that is hard to believe has been captured so well in plush form and standing at 45cm tall, Dougal makes for an impressive sight. The gold-plated button and white collectors tag signal its very limited-edition value with just 750 pieces produced worldwide.
