Valentine’s Day is a celebration of love which encompasses many countries around the globe, being celebrated on February 14^th each year. Named after St. Valentine of Rome who was martyred in the year AD 269, the festival has had romantic associations dating back centuries and is celebrated in poems and plays from authors such as Chaucer, Shakespeare and Edmund Spencer whose Faerie Queen poem alludes to the roses and violets which are still common elements of St. Valentine verses to this day.

Traditionally celebrated by a handwritten card with a verse or declaration of love, Valentine’s gifts take on numerous forms today.
